Found an Animal That Needs Help?

Here’s what to do next.

Finding an animal in need can feel urgent—and we understand how difficult that moment can be. ROAR is a volunteer-run, foster-based organization. We don’t have a shelter or a pick-up service, which means help happens through a shared, community-based approach. The steps below will guide you through what to do next.

🧭 STEP 1 — ASSESS THE SITUATION

Is This a Rescue Situation? Not every animal on the street is abandoned. Immediate danger: bleeding, unable to move, or in visible distress Healthy roaming dog: many dogs on Roatán have homes and move freely Possible ownership: check with neighbors before removing the animal Important: If you suspect abuse or cruelty, contact the police. ROAR does not have legal authority to intervene in these situations.

🧱 STEP 2 — PROVIDE STABILITY

Create a Safe Moment One of the most impactful things you can do is provide a safe, temporary space. Offer water and shade Keep the animal out of immediate danger If possible, contain safely Even 24–48 hours of stability can make a life-saving difference. In many cases, the person who finds the animal becomes the bridge to its next step.

🌐 STEP 3 — USE THE COMMUNITY

Start Local The fastest way to help is often through local visibility. Take 2–3 clear photos Post in: Roatan Pet Lovers, Roatan Community, Roatan Ads Ask if anyone recognizes the animal Once you’ve posted, you can share the link with ROAR—we’re happy to help amplify it.

🏥 STEP 4 — MEDICAL SUPPORT

How ROAR May Help We support medical care as resources allow. Access to donated medications when available Assistance prioritized for urgent cases Coordination with local veterinary clinics ROAR works as a partner in these situations, alongside the finder and the community.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

ROAR is not a 24/7 emergency service and does not provide transport.

If an animal needs immediate care, please contact a clinic directly:

Del Bosque Veterinary Clinic: +504 3313-6866
Bonanza Vet Clinic: +504 9713-8928

If You Still Need Guidance

If you’re unsure what to do next, you can reach out and share the situation.

Including photos and location helps us better understand what’s going on and how we may be able to help.
